It is often thought that softened water is safe to drink except by infants, and those with heart problems.Ħ. There may be faint traces of the salt from the refreshment process in the drinking water, and there will be a slightly increased level of sodium in the water. The spent brine solution is run to a drain, and then the softening process restarts. After a period of time the zeolites need to be refreshed, and this is done, usually in the early hours of the morning, by running a brine solution through the zeolite bed. It is softened by running the water over a bed of zeolites. Water is NOT softened by adding salt to it. I believe plants aren't keen on artificially softened water, so an unsoftened outside supply would be better.ĥ. You would need to supply the kitchen tap with unsoftened cold water.Ĥ. If you pick a point downstream of the trap, and make sure the drain terminates in a gully below the grid but above the trap water level, you won't have any back-flow issues.ģ. Running the waste into the drain is do-able. You could do it, but run it through a "tun" dish in a visible place.Ģ. Running the overflow into a drain is a bit pointless, as you won't see when there's a problem.
